Die Cutting Essentials Magazine issue 78

My copy of Die Cutting Essentials issue 78 arrived in the post yesterday and it's full of amazing craft projects! There's a set of free layering petal dies which would normally be used to make beautiful flowers etc. My makes for this issue are using the same dies to make "masculine" cards so I have used them differently. It's always good to see how they actually look in print! I made all the backgrounds with Tonic Studios' Shimmer Powders :)

Creative Stamping Issue 97

Hello :)

My copy of issue 97 of Creative Stamping has just been delivered :) so that also means it's on sale now and you can pick up your copy in your local newsagent's!

There's a beautiful set of stamps and a matching embossing folder. My commission in this mag is a set of aperture cards featuring the stamps. Can't wait to get a really good read of this later as there are some wonderful cards by some of my favourite crafters in there!

Tonic Studios Craft Kit - Serendipitous Purse Box (affiliate)

In the kit you will get the following

The dies can be used to create a purse shaped box with a top opening and you can see how to make this in my video too but in this blog post I am going to show you how to adapt the basic shape to create a larger box with no divider and two openings :)

How to make it - 

1. Die cut 4 of the main die shape from white card.

2. Trim the speciality paper around the plain die shape and cut out 4 times. NB, it's best not to run the full sheet through the die cutting machine as it will slightly flatten the embossed pattern.

3. Glue the paper onto the 4 white die cuts.

4. Trim the bottoms off 2 of the pieces.

5. Trim off the corners shown in the photo.

6. Glue the flaps under the new shortened pieces.

7. Add hi tack tape to the parts shown in the photo.

8. Attach together as shown.

9. Attach the other sides to create the box.

10. Top view. 

11. Die cut 8 small pieces to decorate the edges of the box - not including the large rectangle- and glue in place,

12. Cut 2 pieces of the rose foiled card measuring 2cm x 13.3cm and score at 5cm from each end. Glue over the top edge of the box covering the join.

13. Repeat with the bottom of the box.

14.  Die cut 2 white ovals and decorate with roses cut from the rose foiled card. Attach to the centres of the joining strip with 3D foam pads.

15. Add ribbon ties to the side openings.

Colouring the Rose Bud Digi Image from Ruth Hamilton Design with Nuvo Alcohol Markers (#ad)

In this short video I show you how I coloured the Rose Bud digi image from my Summer Flowers collection with alcohol markers from Tonic Studios. You can buy the image from https://ruthhamiltondesign.com/

This image, along with the others on the website can be coloured with a wide variety of mediums - watercolour, alcohol ink, distress ink, pencils etc. Maybe you haven't tried downloading and colouring digital images with alcohol markers before - in that case I hope this inspires you to give it a go :). Roses are really beautiful colours in real life but why not experiment with your own combinations?

Baby Girl Shoes Digi image from Ruth Hamilton Design (affiliate)

I was busy editing videos etc on Saturday and uploading them to YT.

This is really simple. Alcohol markers give translucent layers of ink, so a second layer on top makes the colour deeper :) For those of you who like the idea of paper piecing but have never tried it, I have a quick run through that too.

You can use a variety of colouring mediums of these images but in this video I have used Nuvo Alcohol Markers from Tonic Studios.
